Dress: Anthropologie Wightwick Manor Dress
Belt: Anthropologie Synapse Belt
Boots: Steve Madden
This dress has gotten no love from me since I first brought it home back in 2010. I've tried to put outfits together with it several times over the last year, but it never ends up making it out the front door. My biggest complaints with it are the pattern and the colors. The pattern reminds me of my grandma's couch or curtains from the 70's and the colors are just so bland and dull. The dress also isn't lined, so if you wear tights with it, the velvety feeling material bunches up like crazy.
I decided to give the dress one more chance this past week before getting rid of it during my spring cleaning and I don't know what happened, but I actually really liked it this time. I think it must have been the nice weather and the fact that I didn't have to wear tights with it. It also could have been the boots. In the past, I've always tried pairing the dress with flats or heels and they just never looked right with it.
I probably won't be wearing this dress again anytime soon because it's more of a fall/winter dress, but it's definitely a keeper!

Love this styling of the dress! Looks great :)
ReplyDeleteI think it's darling. Looks super comfy too!
ReplyDeleteI actually find it difficult too to wear. But I always have luck in terms of layering it to death. I think it may be the all-over-pattern that messes me up. I do agree that its a fall/winter dress. The simplicity of the belt and boots make the outfit a keeper.
ReplyDeleteThis dress looks so pretty on you! I love that you paired it with boots...Just what it needs :)
ReplyDeleteI sized down in the dress which helped alot for me but the sleeves come down almost to my wrist so I wear them rolled up which I think looks cute and makes the arm feel more "fitted" if that makes sense!
If my dress looked as good on me as it does on you, I'd leave the sleeves as they are!! You picked the perfect belt to compliment the whole outfit...You should wear this again in the fall!
Have a great evening :0)

So glad you decided to keep it! It looks wonderful on you. I LOVE it!

Oh yea, I think it looks great! I bet you'll be happy you kept it come September and October :)
ReplyDeleteI think the dress is a keeper. How about adding a little neon belt to it? I bet it would look fabulous.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend.
OK. I have this dress, too, and felt the SAME EXACT WAY about it. I never felt comfortable in it, but held onto it because ... hey, I paid good money for it and forgot to return it in time! But then, last September, I gave it another try (http://gennyalexander.typepad.com/alexander/2011/09/the-anthro-dress.html) and ... I liked it! Maybe it's just one of those dresses that has to grow on us?
ReplyDeletePS: love it with that belt. :)
I have this dress and I love it! I got it on sale for $30. I wear it with a wide brown belt, brown tights, and booties. :) Mine doesn't ever bunch up with tights, but I do hate that it's not lined.
ReplyDeleteHi Sara! I actually have this dress too and I love it for a cold day. I find that wearing a slip underneath totally solves the tights sticking problem, and love wearing it with purple or burgundy tights and either burgundy heeled booties that I have, or knee high boots as you’ve done here. Belts are key and switching up the colors of the belts can make it more fun too. I have actually layered under it for a really cold day, and think a button down vest would look cute over it as well. I always get lots of compliments on it!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you decided to keep it! This is one dress I've always been sad that I missed out on. It looks great with the boots!!!
ReplyDeleteI have this one too and ended up shortening it 2 inches (I'm 5'4") which balanced out the length of the sleeves so I was less milkmaid-ish!
ReplyDeleteI was just the 10,000th viewer of your profile! Wooo, I'm awesome. :) Anyway, this might sound weird, but I was wondering where you live? I always see so many pretty trees in your pictures, and I was wondering which part of the US they are taken in?
ReplyDeleteI have a couple of those dresses too. I really like the way you styled it!

Why would you buy a dress that looks like curtains and itches?? Dislike this outfit.
ReplyDeleteReally love this dress. It's a swan afterall. Brown boots make everything better :)
