December Birchbox

IMG_5851

I have to admit, I was a little disappointed with my Birchbox this month. I thought that they would go all out for the holidays/the last box of the year, but instead, they filled the box with products that were probably some of my least favorite of the year. The one thing that I did like about the box was the packaging. They included sparkly white tissue paper instead of the standard maroon color and then they also listed the products out on a nice holiday card that was covered in snowflakes.

Here's a look at what came in my box:
  • Harvey Prince Yogini- This scent is made up of sandalwood, grapefruit, and Egyptian myrrh. According to the Birchbox website, it's supposed to be light and clean and "counteract stress and keep us zen throughout the day". It did anything but that for me. It was one of those scents that makes you start coughing after you spray it on because it's so strong. I actually got a headache after I smelled it for the first time.
  • Jouer Moisturizing Lip Gloss in Birchbox Pink-This gloss looks like a bright hot pink color in the container, but luckily, it doesn't show up that color on the lips. It's more of a sheer pink when you first apply it, but you can build up the color. It's not sticky and I didn't detect any scent. I just didn't like the fact that the sample is so tiny! Also, very little product comes off on the brush. I had to stick the brush back into the container 5 times before my lips were coated with the gloss.
  • L'Oreal Professional Mythic Oil- This is supposed to give hair more shine and control any frizz that you may have. I do like trying out new hair products, so I was happy to see this in my box. Again, I just wish it was bigger. I'll probably only get 2-3 uses out of it with my long hair. Oh and the packaging...not a fan. It was difficult for me to open the container (I seriously had a hard time getting the cap off), get the oil out, and then close it without spilling any of the oil.
  • Befine Gentle Cleanser-I wasted about a days worth of product when I first opened this. I was expecting it to be a thicker consistency and it wasn't (it's a liquid), so when I opened it with the cap facing down, some of the product spilled out into the sink. I'll probably use this up, but won't ever buy a full size of it. It felt a little sticky and in general I just prefer cream cleansers.
  • ShowStoppers Designer Fashion Tape-These double sided tape strips are supposed to help hold up your dress. They're supposed to last for over eight hours and you can apply them to fabric or directly to your skin. I honestly can't think of the last time I had a problem with this, so I probably won't be using these.
  • EBOOST Orange Natural Energy Booster-I'll probably end up giving this to my husband. I'm not a fan of energy boosters or orange flavored drinks.
What did you get in your Birchbox this month? Were you as unimpressed as I was?

  1. I got much the same - different fragrance {which I loved} and a pore minimizer cream instead of the face wash {which I hate}. Overall I really liked my box. I felt it was worth the $10, since I really like the fragrance, hair oil and lip gloss. Sorry you were so disappointed.

  2. I got the exact same box and I was also disappointed. I subscribed to My Glam Bag because it looks like they are getting full size products (think Urban Decay) for $10 a month! I just wanted to try it out and if it's better, I'll cancel Birchbox.

  3. i got the exact same box as you. i haven't tried anything yet but i was pretty pleased - the fashion tape is going to go into my desk at work for emergencies (i keep a roll at home, very useful for keeping button ups from gaping for me), and i liked the fragrance. curious to see how the hair oil works out. i think this is the first box i've gotten so far where i think i may actually use all of the products in it.

  4. I got the exact same Birchbox as you!! I usually get so excited and find at least one thing I really like in it. I ALSO usually get it the very first of the month and didn't get it until the 15th! I agree...thought they might beef it up for the holidays but it was a total let down and that scent stuck with me all day it was awful!! I am considering dropping Birchbox it's just not all I thought it would be.

  6. I got the same exact box! Definitely disappointed, but have hopes it will be better next month. If things aren't looking so good in the next 3 months I'm going to cancel and just stick with the Julep Maven Program :-)

  7. I haven't even gotten mine yet!!! I did get an apology and 100 extra points, but man, it's almost January already. I know mine contains Blinc eyeliner, a super-expensive perfume that is brand new and thus delayed the shipment, the lipgloss, fashion tape, a tinted makeup base, and the Boost stuff.

  8. I haven't gotten mine yet! Lame! I peeked on the website and I think I will be happy with it, though! If it will ever get here!

  9. I feel the same way about my box. I expected a lot bigger wow factor. With the new year, I might have to unsubscribe.

I've gotten a couple of different cleaners from Birchbox and all of them have the same liquidy consistency. It's almost like water. The tape baffles me. It's a great idea to include in the box, but I know a lot of different people who would rather choose to wear something different if they had to tape themselves into their clothes.

  10. I got all the same things you did, except for the cleanser--I got a Benefit primer instead. I also got a nail polish. Overall, I haven't been that impressed with Birchbox. My boxes for the last two months were different than the ones you got, and not for the better. This one was an improvement over them, but I still haven't found a product I really loved. I have two general issues with BB: one, the perfumes they send are consistently awful. I know scent is subjective but honestly, I can't imagine anyone liking some of the sharp, heavy sprays I've received. Secondly, they should skip the food or drink items and just put in another beauty product. Lately I've felt like I'm over-paying for what comes.

  11. I didn't get a November box, and all I got was an apology--no extra points. :( They re-shipped, but I still had to wait forever. I wish they'd do a better job with the shipping.

  12. I'm actually still waiting on my Birchbox. :( Good to know about the Befine, I actually did like the moisturizer I got a few months back from Birchbox, a lot. But, at least I know now to try this product for myself.

  13. I was VERY disappointed in this month's box. Almost all of my samples are up for swap. I did my blog review anyways but I hope the new year brings better BB's!

  14. I got Benefit's POREfessional (which I LOVE), Harvey Prince's Ageless perfume (also LOVE, and I'm picky with perfume), the Jouer lipgloss (like, but not as well as my Buxom glosses), and Nuxe multi-use dry oil shimmer (which is quite nice). Plus the Show Stopper tape (which is great to keep a cardigan laying right over and sundress and that sort of thing), and the Eboost, which since it's sweetened with stevia, I really like as an airborne substitute.

All in all, December's was a great box for me!

(Though I still want to try the blinc mascara!)
