Happy Birthday Birchbox!

IMG_4159

This month is Birchbox's first birthday and to celebrate, they filled their boxes with some of their favorite products.

My favorite product in this month's box is definitely the Harvey Prince Eau Flirt Fragrance. And no, it's not just because of the super cute packaging. It has a base of lavender and pumpkin along with freesia, jasmine, nutmeg, cinnamon, and amber. It's a very odd combination of notes, but somehow it works.

Another one of my favorites is the Incoco Nail Polish Applique in Adventurous. Mine are a sparkly turquoise color, but they also have pink, red, and leopard. If you aren't familiar with strips like these, you basically just put them on your nail like a sticker and file off the excess. I haven't tried them yet, but if they're anything like the Sally Hansen Salon Effects Nail Polish Strips, I'm sure I'll love them!

I also got a sample of the Blinc Mascara, a tube of the Jouer Lip Enhancer, a lash card, and a friendship bracelet.

The lash card is supposed to prevent mascara from getting onto your eyelids, but to me, it just seems like it would waste time and get in the way.

I've received samples of the Blinc Mascara before, but have never tried it. Remember how I'm afraid of using eyelash curlers? Well I'm also afraid of this mascara because it's supposed to form "tubes" around your lashes. Then when you want to take it off, the tubes are supposed to slide right off of your lashes. I just picture my lashes coming off in the tubes, so I'm staying away!

The friendship bracelet is a cute idea, but I don't see it lasting that long because it's not the best quality.

So far, I'm really liking the Jouer Lip Enhancer. It's not sticky and really moisturizes my lips. The smell isn't so great when you first put it on, but that goes away shortly after you apply it.

What did you get in your Birchbox this month?

  1. Oh wow, I really want to try that perfume now! I would LOVE to smell like pumpkin pie and lavender (two of my favorite things!) Wish the Harvey Prince site would offer free shipping...not really wanting to pay nearly $7 in shipping for a scent I may or may not love (do you hear me, HP? hehe). Thanks for sharing :)

  2. Thanks for sharing. Wish I had received the same fragrance as you, I received Ferragamo fragrance instead. I received the Blinc mascara last month and was soooooo afraid but finally broke down and tried it last week. It is totally fine though, no lash loss when I removed, it sort of comes off in string like pieces with no make-up remover required, just warm water. I actually felt silly after I did remove it, I had the same visions as you with my lashes in the sink but it was really simple. I will say I did not love the formula as it made my lashes a little clumpy. Some people like that look as I have read many great reviews.

  3. i got the leopard nails and hated them I dont see the point... I thought they were more difficult than nail polish and they still needed a lil time to "dry" or not be sticky. I also got a different scent and wasnt to fond of it. I got the mascara before too and also did not like it because of the clumps. I received a face cream.. I dont have it on me right now so I am not sure the name.. a small brown tube..but its kind of cakey and I could feel it on my skin so not the best. The lip enhancer is probably my favorite item. My last birchbox was def better...but you when some you lose some

  4. I got the same exact items, except I got a sort of leopard print on the nails. I'm not a fan of the pattern, and for some reason, those sticky things really skeeve me out. No clue why. I like the perfume quite a bit, and you might want to try the mascara - I actually like it a lot!! It comes off really easily with water, and it doesn't smudge or flake. It's kind of weird to see the tubes, but at least you know it's off! I prefer it to waterproof mascaras, because I feel like I always have to scrub to get it off, and inevitably, a lash or two comes off. This was probably the least favorite Birchbox I've gotten so far.

  5. I got the friendship bracelet (in the trash- cute idea, but come on...), the nail appliques in leopard (we're having an 80s day at school tomorrow so these actually might get used), the lip treatment, colorscience face powder (ok, a little light even for whitey white me), and a perfume sample, but not the same one you got. Overall I'm kind of "meh" with this month's. It seems like I only get really good stuff on alternating months, but its still fun to get a present in the mail so I'm going to keep up my subscription.

  6. I am actually wearing the friendship bracelet- it is cute, but yeah, definitely not great quality. I also got the same nail appliques as you...but I always have gel nails, so I don't think I'll use them. I got a different fragrance, which I actually really like, but yours sounds very intriguing. I will have to check it out. A couple months ago I got the Blinc eyeliner, which I like, so I wish I had gotten the mascara this month. I also received the lip treatment, but I got the colorscience face powder...it's like Bare Escentuals Mineral Veil. Not the best month, but not bad.

I wore my bracelet around yesterday too :) The one thing I do like about it is that it's adjustable and it's not just a "one size fits all" bracelet.

I thought it was really interesting that my fragrance had pumpkin in it. Never heard of that being in a fragrance before.

Yea, it definitely wasn't the greatest month, which surprises me since it was their birthday month. I can't really believe that the products they chose are really their favorites.

I do love the idea of not having to take my mascara off at night with makeup remover, but I just can't do it!

I hear spider lashes are in for the fall, so maybe I should give it a try?

It takes me quite awhile to get the nail polish strips on too. They never fit my nails perfectly...they are either too big or too small. Then it's kind of a pain to file off the excess. I think they're fun every once in awhile though and they do last me a good week to 10 days.

I'm usually not a big fan of lavender, but I can't really smell it with this fragrance. I'm guessing the combination of amber, nutmeg, cinnamon, and pumpkin drowns it out.

  13. Pumpkin is actually supposed to be a scent that turns guys on.. weird, I know. So if your hubbie is extra frisky...

  14. I actually use the clinique mascara that forms tubes around your lashes and I really prefer it to my old mascara. It's pretty awesome! I got the same exact things in my birchbox this month...but I decided to cancel my birchbox account after this month. I haven't gotten anything all that useful and I feel like I'm just wasting money at this point.

  15. I had to laugh at your fear of lashes coming off because I went through the horrifying panic of thinking my lashes came off. When I received my Blinc Mascara I just put it on without reading the instructions (because really, who needs to read the instructions of a tube of mascara, right? Wrong!). As I was washing my face for the night, I noticed through half opened eyes that my lashes were going down the drain! GASP! I was panicked and shouting OMG! My husband hustled in to see what was going on as I so frantically tried to dry my face and peer into the mirror to see if all my lashes were gone. I scrambled to find that tube of mascara to see what the heck I'd put on my eyes! It was a good laugh and relief to find out it was only the tubes. So while it's scary to see all those little tubes slide off, your lashes are left intact. I won't be buying it though. I'll stick to my pink Maybelline tube thankyouverymuch.

  16. I'm a bit jealous - I really want to try the blinc mascara, but haven't gotten it yet. The eau flirt sounds intriguing, too (and you're so right about the packaging).

    I got...
    The friendship bracelet
    colorescience pro sunforgettable
    Jouer Lip enhancer
Alvatore Ferragamo Attimo L'Eay Florale (it's alright)
Incoco Nail polish applique in a glittery rust colored stripy ridged pattern
