Virtual Dress Up

If you've been a long time reader of my blog, then you know that last July, I was married to the love of my life. That day was the most amazing day of my life (so far) and I wouldn't go back and change a thing even if I could, but there is this itsy bitsy, teeny-weeny part of me that can't help but wish that I had gotten married a year later so that I could be a BHLDN bride. Their gowns are just stunning and unlike anything I ever saw during my wedding dress search (it didn't help that my wedding was in a small town). And the shoes...don't even get me started on the shoes! But since things didn't end up that way, I thought the next best thing would be to play virtual dress up with the dresses/accessories on the BHLDN website :) So I created four different looks that I would use during my imaginary BHLDN wedding weekend. Let's take a look!

Rehearsal Dinner

I am obsessed with this dress! The mustard yellow bow, the clusters of daisies...I die! The best part? I could wear this mini dress over and over again for years to come! As far as shoes go, these delicate, scalloped heels were an obvious choice for a girly girl like me. A few other simple accessories and I'm ready for my last night as a single woman!

Maid of Honor

One of my top three color palette options for my real wedding was robin's egg blue and red. Unfortunately, I ended up not choosing that option because of a few flower/dress issues (I went with pink/green/blue instead), so I was very excited when I realized that I could actually use those colors in my imaginary BHLDN wedding!

I love the sheer neckline on this dress and the beautiful raspberry color would go perfectly with my MOH's blond hair. Of course you know I adore the bow too! The beautiful robin's egg blue heels and accessories complete my color palette and I gave her this gorgeous headband to wear because it's just too beautiful to not include somewhere in my wedding :)

Bride

My turn! So I've mentioned before that I had a very small wedding. Only about 40-50 people attended and most were close friends and family. Well in my imaginary BHLDN wedding, the size of the guest list doesn't change, so I decided to keep my look simple with this soft and feminine pleated dress. I'd replace the green sash with a robin's egg blue sash and add red peep-toes to stay with my color palette. I never thought that I was a "short veil" kinda girl, but I just can't stop ooohing and aaaaahing over this one. Add a pair of simple earrings and I'm ready to walk down the aisle!

Honeymoon

The beautiful dresses/accessories shouldn't go away when the wedding day ends. I want to look amazing for my imaginary honeymoon too! The bubble-hem and pockets are what drew me in with this dress. Plus, it just looks like something you'd wear while walking on the beach with your new hubby.

You really can't go wrong when choosing accessories for this dress because it has so many different colors on it to play off of! I went with my new current obsession, blush/pink, but you could also do green/purple/fuscia/brown, etc. I like the look of the dress without a necklace, but I added earrings, a ring, and a bracelet so that I wouldn't look too simple. Now get me to the beach!

I hope you all had fun playing virtual dress up with me :) Are any of you married girls going to try and convince your husbands that it's time to get your vows renewed so that you can be BHLDN brides (unfortunately I think it's a little too soon for me to bring that up)? If not, tell me about what looks you would create for your imaginary BHLDN wedding!

I'll leave you with a quick peek at the outfit I wore yesterday for Valentine's Day. I didn't have a single red article of clothing in my 30 items (poor planning on my part), so I wore a bold pair of red tights so that I wouldn't get accused of not showing any holiday spirit at work. I actually ended up getting a lot of second glances from people throughout the day, so either they were really impressed with my festiveness (is that even a word?) or they were thinking that I would have been better off not wearing any red at all.

  1. I love the pop of color with the tights, and that skirt is super cute on you. The wedding options are amazing. I actually picked out the very same bridesmaid dresses for my pretend wedding (not engaged yet)!

  3. You already know how obsessed I am with BHLDN, and I'm so happy I'm getting married and can be a BHLDN bride! I love all your picks, and your simple, non-traditional bride look especially! That pleated origami dress was so pretty on. They gave me that headpiece you picked, and I love it so much, I can't wait to wear it on my wedding day.
Oh and the Gin Fizz Dress? Seriously so amazing in person.
    Such a fun post Sara!

  4. I love all 4 of your looks, especially the maid of honor one! I have been waiting on BHLDN for what seems like forever! I am getting married later this year! Even though we are keeping everything small/simple, I am hoping to incorporate some BHLDN pieces.

  5. Cool post Sara! I love the robin's egg blue and red combination. I wish I could get my grabby hands on the Pastille Mini Dress and Gin Fizz Shift. I also wish Anthro et al would sell shoes in a size 5! *grumble*grumble*

  6. I got married last year on Feb 13, so almost a year exactly from BHLDN's launch. I would die for those robin's egg blue heels, the ribboned silk gown, or the tulle era dress... even though I wore a more traditional dress for my wedding. I wish the tulle era dress came in another color... for a few thousand dollars less, haha.

  7. I am obsessed with those robin's egg blue shoes. I might just buy them to wear to work!

I loved everything about my wedding (just about four years ago!) except my dress. I liked my dress, but I was never really in love with it. I was so worried about the BHLDN line coming out because I was afraid I'd find my "dream dress" and want to have another wedding. Luckily I think some of the dresses are really awesome, but none of them are "the one" either. The imaginary search continues, I guess!

  9. The Gin and Fizz is definitely a fave of mine too. The vibe is so fun and flirty. With the mustard yellow bow...kill me. So CUTE! But my favorite is still the Tulle Era Dress. Too gorgeous for words. I loved playing virtual bride. And the robin's egg blue with red would have been bold and fun colors for your wedding, however I bet your color scheme looked amazing!

  10. I like your valentine's outfit! I'm the youngest person in my office by about 15 years so I definitely understand getting second glances when I were some of my Anthro clothes but I think just wearing a pop of red as opposed to a head to toe red outfit was really cute and smart. I haven't really swooned over anything at Bhldn yet except for the Pastille Mini dress which I think would be perfection for the send-off but my bf's still trying to save up for an engagement ring and I don't want to be one of those crazy girls who starts seriously planning her wedding before she's even engaged lol

  12. Sara,

I think we got married around the same time, and i actually brought up to my husband that i wish we got married later too so i could have worn a bhldn dress. he was slightly horrified, but mostly amumsed :-)

I absolutely LOVE the dress that you chose for your 'rehearsal dinner' ~ i am pretty sure i would have purchased that for mine as well. I ended up wearing the anthro "softshape" dress that had been sitting with tags on in my closet. Oh well! :-)

  14. Sara, you look pretty as ever in your outfit. I was married 20 yrs ago and we didn't have near the resources you younger brides do now. I love the mini dress, it's gorgeous. Also, love all their shoes and even considered a pair for myself when I get really dressed up. Be sure to enter my Anthro $50 give a way. I know how much you love that store. LOL!!

  15. My sister and I were thinking the exact same thing. She's on her 13th anniversary and I'm on my 8th. We think it's all right to renew during these years, right? We both want the last dress Kim tried on! I loved all your pretend picks! I didn't even think of a honeymoon dress. I just want to buy a dress, shoes and accessories!

I like your V.day OOTD! The red tights are awesome!
