Take Action Dress-$168-Size 4
This dress was everything that I had hoped it would be and more! My true size 4 was a perfect fit from head to toe. The elastic waist (which has two yellow buttons in the front) cinched in at all the right places and really defined my waist, which is something I wasn't sure I'd get with this dress before I tried it on. I also tried the dress on with a belt, but I honestly don't think you need it. It didn't cinch me in that much more and I just prefer the look of the dress without the belt. I do think the dress will look cute with a belted cardigan in the cooler months for work, but you can definitely go without it in the summer months and still have a cute shape. The bottom of the dress hit right above my knees, so I'd have no problem wearing this to work. As others have mentioned, the color of the dress is a darker teal than it appears online and the polka dots are yellow, but have a hint of lime green to them. The neckline is pleated and comes up rather high, but you are able to wear a normal bra (yay!). The dress is made of silk, so it's oh so soft, but unfortunately, I didn't get to enjoy that too much because I was too busy trying to pull the clinging dress away from my legs for these pictures! I definitely think this dress will be coming home with me during my birthday haul next month :)

Paraiso Dress-$148-Size 4
This dress hasn't made it to the Anthro website yet, but I'm sure it will soon with all the other pretty new spring arrivals. It's strapless, covered in different shades of grey/blue/yellow stripes, and has a very voluminous skirt. I normally like a lot of volume, but I felt like this one had a little too much and made me look wider at my midsection. I think part of the problem was that the waist of the dress came up too high, making the "poof" start a little bit higher than normal. The dress comes with a blue-ish grey sash, which didn't knock my socks off, but I'd probably keep it and wear it with the dress every once in awhile. My true size 4 was a snug fit (I had trouble getting the side zipper up all the way on my own, but I eventually got it), but that's a good thing for small chested girls like me because it means there's no chance "the girls" will unexpectedly be exposed. The one big problem I had with this dress was that the boning (I think that's what it's called) in the chest of the dress really dug into my skin and wasn't comfortable at all. This dress was pretty to look at, but the comfort and fit issues I had with it make it a pass for me.

Emerald Wicklow Dress-$158-Size Small

Emerald Wicklow Dress-$158-Size Small
All I can say when I look at the pictures of me in this dress is Yikes! Let's start with some positives though. Um....let's see...I guess the emerald green color is pretty? And...oh yea the straps weren't too long and the cut of the neckline wasn't too low. And...um...yea that's about it! Now for the negatives....do I really even have to tell you the negatives? Let's just say that silk jersey and I are not the best of friends right now. It clung to my body in all the wrong places and really emphasized my hips in a bad way! The draping of the silk jersey only makes it worse because it draws the eye right to my lower half. The dress also had a strange "pocket" under the chest on the left side that separated the front of the dress into two different layers. Kind of like a faux wrap. It wasn't that noticeable to me, just strange. I bet you can't guess my final verdict on this one!

I attempted to try this dress on about a month ago, but for some reason, I had the hardest time getting the darn thing on! I kept getting tangled up in the slip and I'd put my head through the armhole instead of the neck opening, so I finally just gave up. Then I saw that my store had one in my size yesterday, so I decided to give it another try. I'm so glad that I did because I love this dress! My true size 4 fit perfectly and really defined my waist, but the length was a little on the shorter side. Probably a no-go for work, but it would be the perfect dress to wear on the weekends come spring. The material of the dress is a sheer silk, which made it feel light and airy and as I mentioned earlier, the dress also comes with a very well made slip. I usually don't like the look of this sage green color against my fair skin, but I think it worked for me this time. I was two seconds away from bringing this dress home with me, but I decided to wait since I have a birthday coupon coming my way in a few short weeks. Fingers crossed that my store still has one in my size come birthday haul time!

Silken Stiches Dress-$168-Size 4

Silken Stiches Dress-$168-Size 4
This dress comes in this beautiful royal blue color that has little seafoam green flowers all over it and also in a darker green color that actually just went on sale today. It's strapless, but comes with optional straps, which I would definitely need because I was able to pull this dress right off over my legs when I went to take it off. I actually think I might be able to fit into a size 2 because I had plenty of room to spare in the skirt of the dress as well. I guess it probably just depends on if you want to wear the dress with the straps and how snug you want the skirt to be. The dress is also made of silk, has pockets, and is pullover style. I love the color and might actually consider it if I could get the sizing figured out and I lived in a beachy town, but I don't, so it's a pass for me.

Thanks for these reviews! Ever since i laid eyes on the TA dress, i fell in love, so last night i got it. I'm so glad i did, as after seeing it on you (and Dea+Kim+Kathryn..and some others), it's reassured me that I've made the right choice! It's super cute on you!
ReplyDeleteThe laced with Grace dress is another pretty one, but i think i've missed my chance now. I think you look lovely in it.
As for the other dresses, im not 100% sold yet...
Oooohh! Love the dress review, they all look so pretty, can't wait to go try some on.
ReplyDeleteI purchased the laced w/ grace full price and don't regret it at all! It's seriously perfect and is universally flattering. I love it!
ReplyDeleteI like the color of the take action dress. I don't think it needs a belt at all. In fact, I think it looks much better w/o the belt. I feel torn about the dress, though. I like it a lot and I have a bday coupon burning a hole in my wallet, but I just don't know if I can justify having 3 polka dot dresses in my wardrobe. Is it overkill?
I really like the take action dress but I have the twinkle one from before and am not sure I need two of the same style, even though I really like that style. (: I love the laced with grace dress but my store has never gotten them. I wish my store would get more and keep them. Even when they get dresses, usually I see them, procrastinate trying them on and then they are shipped out the next time I go to try them on. It's frustrating. The SA said if they aren't selling they get shipped out. So anyway, I wish I could try on the Laced with Grace dress before buying but maybe I'll have to track one down and order. You think it's TTS? I am kind of between a 4 and 6 right now. I'm short waisted though and a little thicker in my middle proportionately. What do you think? Is this dress looser or tighter through the waist?
ReplyDeleteHi Sara, Great picks for dresses to review. I know you aren't thrilled with the Mystery Maeve dress,But you look adorable in it. The Laced with Grace dress is so dainty looking. I missed out on that one too. They didn't carry it at the store I shop at. As to the sister of the Twinkle dress, Very nice. Love it! I actually just purchased the Twinkle Twinkle dress from The Rockerfeller Store for $39.95. Thanks to a fellow blogger who returned hers and put it on hold for me.I agree with your comment on the Emerald Wicklow. I personally would feel like a Shar pei in it. No Insult to Shar pei's. Thanks for going out and trying these on for us. Have a Great Wednesday :)
ReplyDeleteThat take action dress is getting so much love in the blogging community. It looks so lovely on you!
ReplyDeletethe take action dress looks fantastic on you! i loved it when i tried it on, and it loved me, too -- it was so clingy. i hope that's an easy fix, b/c i really want to pick one up with my birthday discount next month (2.24) ...
ReplyDeleteYay I LOVE it when reviews offer up something that isn't online yet. I really like the look of the Maeve dress but will keep your comments in mind.
ReplyDeleteAs I said to Bonnie (i think) yesterday, I have yet to see the Take Action dress not look 100% super on anyone, I'm thinking it'll be a full price purchase or risk missing out over there? We have a full compliment of sizes online over here (at the moment) but I'm keeping my eye on it nonetheless!
The Take Action Dress is darling on you!!! I am someone who it didn't totally flatter - and I am still moping about it! I also tried that striped dress - just showed up on the website this morning and the skirt was SO full, it was a complete disaster on me, dh and I just laughed - really it's a shame though because the colors are so pretty!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Jan, the Take Action Dress is SOOOOO cute on you! I'm curious to try the striped Maeve Dress...and yes...the Laced With Grace Dress...it's my current obsession. I am considering just paying full price for it and hoping it goes on sale soon.
ReplyDeleteVintageglammz-I definitely think you made the right choice! I'm not sure that dress will make it to sale. I plan on picking one up myself with my birthday discount next month :)
ReplyDeleteKelly-I totally agree with you about the TA Dress looking better without the belt. I think adding a belt (at least a wide one) takes away from the dress itself. And I definitely don't think 3 polka dot dresses is too much! Can you ever have too many polka dots? This will be my second polka dot dress (along with the Mullany Dress) and I may also bring home that cute polka dot dress from The Limited that Kim reviewed the other day :)
Jaime-I found the Laced With Grace dress to be TTS, but I've read several other reviews that say it ran small. It was definitely a little snug in the waist for me (not uncomfortable though), so I'd size up if I were you (go with the 6).
Gabby-You're right that dress does look just like a Shar Pei! Too funny!
Cindi-I'm worried that it's not going to make it to sale since it's getting so much love, so I think I'm going to have to buy it next month with my birthday discount :)
DeAnna-I couldn't get the dress to stop clinging to me either! I honestly didn't think I'd be able to get any good pictures of me in it!
Louise-If I was a betting woman, I'd say the TA Dress won't make it to sale over here. Maybe a few of them will, but I'm not willing to risk it!
Jan-I was sad the mystery dress didn't work too because the colors were beautiful and it really would have been the perfect spring/summer dress :/ I'd definitely be sweating bullets in that thing come summer though with all that poof!
Kay-I think the Laced With Grace Dress is about due for a shuffle to sale, but you just never know with Anthro!
I actually purchased the Laced With Grace dress a week or so ago when I found a popback of my size through the catalog link...I didn't want to pay full price but now that I have it and it fits so beautifully, I am not sure I can send it back and risk not finding my size again when it does finally go on sale...in fact I'm thinking of returning my as yet unworn Sugar and Cream dress to help defray the cost of the LWG dress...it's just that good. I have similar coloring to yours (Dark hair, fair skin) and didn't think the green would look good on me but it's surprisingly flattering, isn't it? The Take Action dress is adorable on you too.
