Anthropologie Dress Reviews

Hi all! I'm back today with a few dress reviews from my quick trip to Anthropologie over the weekend. None of these dresses really knocked my socks off once I got them on, but that's probably for the best since I can't buy anything right now anyway. Let me know what you think!

Mary Shirtdress-$128-Size 4

I really wanted to try this dress on in the purple color because I'm a little tired of the army/khaki green (First the Primer Shirtdress, then the D'armee Dress, then the Field Skirt, and now this), but my size was nowhere to be found. Plus I think the purple color would have made me feel more girly and feminine, which didn't happen with the green. My true size 4 was a snug fit in the chest/waist, but there wasn't any pulling, so I wouldn't size up. Those of you with larger busts may have to though. The sleeves weren't tight at all, actually a little loose and the length was perfect for work, hitting right above the knee. I do think that the unnecessarily huge pockets made my hips look wider than they are, but I might be able to get past that once this dress goes on sale. If this only came in green I would pass, but I might reconsider purple on sale.

Peggy Sue Dress-$168-Size 4

This dress looked great on Tien here and on the model on the Anthro website, but it didn't quite work out the same for me. On the model, the color looks like a brighter blue than it is in real life. It's actually more of a dark navy, which doesn't look the greatest against my pale skin. I wasn't able to zip up my normal size 4 all the way in the back by myself, but I'm sure it would have gone up with some help. That being said, I think the waist of the 4 would have been too snug when the dress was zipped up all the way, so I would need to size up to a 6. The straps and bust fit perfectly though, so I would need to have alterations done to the size 6. I did love the organza straps, but overall, I just felt like I could find so many other dresses that would look much better on me. Pass!

Spliced Ikat Shift-$168-Size 4

This dress was a huge disappointment for me. I couldn't wait to try it on when I first saw it pop up on the website, but after I finally got it on, I couldn't wait to get it off! My first issue with it was that I felt like I was wearing a maid/nurse/etc. uniform (nothing against maids or nurses, but I don't want to feel like I'm wearing your uniform or any other uniform for that matter when I'm on date night with the hubby). I guess it was the color choice or that the sides were a different color than the front/back of the dress. The second and biggest problem was the fit. It was VERY tight through the hips and when I walked, the dress bunched up around my stomach and the pockets flared out, which wasn't flattering at all. The top part of the dress did fit me well, so sizing up isn't an option unless I want to pay for alterations (which I don't). Women without curves might be able to pull this off, but curvy girls are going to have a very hard time making it work. Big pass!

  1. Thanks for the reviews! I'm sorry to hear that the Peggy Sue dress was underwhelming. It's good to know it runs a bit small so I will size up (if it ever shows up in my store to try on). I agree with you about the purple version of the first dress. I think I'd like it better than the green too.

  3. The Mary Shirtdress is C-U-T-E, I actually love the pockets, and your waist looks itsy bitsy - I hope you can find it in purple to try on, soon! And I'm sorry the Spliced Ikat Dress didn't work out, fit wise. Standing still it looks fantastic on you - not uniformish at all.

  5. Oh it is such a shame that the Peggy Sue was a letdown as the website model shot is stunning... but I totally missed the actual dress in the new arrivals as the colours are so different!

  6. Oh, I'm so glad you tried the Mary Shirtdress, because I LOVED it online! I think it's so cute! I hope you find the purple soon, I love the green!

  7. Oh, Sara, you look great in all three dresses! I tried on the purple version of the Mary dress, and actually thought the opposite of what you did - that the green would be better for me (brighten me up a bit). ^_^ To each her own. Anyway, I can't actually buy anything for another 18 days (has 30 days ever crept by more slowly?) so this is not something I need to worry about right now. Thanks for the reviews.
